A pleasant tour

for young and old

-----

The Château de Monsoreau is the only chateau along the Loire built with its "feet in the water". It overlooks the confluence of the Vienne and the Loire and is located halfway between Saumur and Chinon.
Owned by the Conseil Général de Maine et Loire since the beginning of the 20th century, this monument reopened its doors to the public in July 2001 after two years of renovations costing over 8 million euros. Today the monument is managed commercially by a private company - SARL Château de Montsoreau.

The Château de Montsoreau is an exceptional site for many reasons:

  • Firstly, thanks to its geographical location, at the confluence of the Vienne and the Loire. Few monuments today can brag about having the royal river, the Loire, as their garden.
  • In addition, because of the architecture between two worlds, the Middle Ages and modern times. It is half fortress and half pleasant chateau with amenities.
  • Lastly, it is exceptional because of the innovative character of its multimedia tour of 18 rooms of the château.

"Les imaginaires de Loire"
(The imaginary world of the Loire), invites you on a journey

A permanent audiovisual tour

The scenography directed toward emotions and dreams, designed by the agency Itinérance, which also designed the "Les imaginaires du Mont Saint Michel", takes visitors on a journey along the Loire (world heritage site) and introduces them to the Dame de Montsoreau, heroine of a famous book by Alexandre Dumas.

From the cellars of the chateau to its terrace with towers, visitors of the Château de Montsoreau are plunged into a dream world that presents the Loire in Anjou, with its history, culture, economy and society through light, images and sounds. There are a variety of themes including the landscapes of the Loire, the merchant navy and Loire river commerce, as well as the history and legend of the Château de Montsoreau.

While walking through the various halls of the chateau, paintings will appear and disappear, like the flow of the river, in rhythm with the changing light and music. These paintings depict various times in the history of the Loire and they offer an enchanting tour along the river.
